Ok this is an uncharacteristic rant and I promise its a one off .. but what the hell is wrong with WordPress ??
Ok this stems from a few things for example I log on to freshly pressed to see a bunch of cooking recipes have made the coveted front page. I can go to croc infested river’s , cross a continent etc and write about it but apparently watermelon sorbet is more bloody interesting ! Not knocking the foodie’s but this is WORDpress. I spend 2 hours composing a post that is mainly words and 4 or 5 people like it. Someone publishes a recipe for something and all of a sudden 456 bloggers love that shit ?! I don’t get it ! But hey if you cant beat em join em so this is why as of next week I will have a Bush Tucker section on my blog Yep Kels Cookin’
By the way thank you to all the people who do read my stuff I love and appreciate you guys and also love reading your stuff too
I just had the best weekend in ages. Once a year the V8 Supercars and Utes come to Darwin for a 3 day event that brings people from all over the country. I was representing Kim Jane and his ute on the grid and in the pit lane.Kim Jane is the nephew of one of Australia’s biggest known race car drivers and the owner of one of the largest national tyre companies , Bob Jane.
I shall now proceed to tell you the story using pictures cos hey that’s heaps more interesting than reading a post where I try to describe anything to do with motor sports ( not my best subject !).
So Day one I had a photo shoot with the ute which was a bit of an on the spot thing – I had just arrived and next thing I know I’m climbing all over a ute . Fun !

After my shoot I did my first stint on the grid , where they make you hold a race flag , stare straight ahead and try to look pretty ( hard to do when your flag turns into a parachute ). The first one went well and I headed back to the pits to hand out promo gear . A little while later a familiar looking bloke and a young guy approached me with a camera. Now I don’t know if many of you have caught on , but I’m not shy. At all. In fact sometimes I can be a down right bloody show pony but I like to think in a good way – I love to make people laugh and tell a good story ! So when I saw the camera my first instinct wasn’t to run and hide. In fact I was like “hey how ya goin’ , what’s the camera for ?” . It turned out they were filming people around the track to put on the big screen so I did a little spiel for Kim Jane and the Bob Jane Tmart products for him on camera. When that was done we started chatting away when I looked down at his name tag …. “OMG your Phil O’Brian , your my hero ! I love your shit ! Wow this is awesome , YOU inspired my blog !!” I think I nearly scared the poor bloke with my excitement but after .05 of a millisecond he recovered and we had more of a chat about the Territory , Gove , and his projects. We both agreed to catch up and have a beer and that made my day because c’mon , how many days do you meet one of your heroes and get them to agree to drink with you ?? Well for me its NEVER so I was stoked !

So it wasn’t even lunchtime on the first day and I had been photographed climbing all over a ute in front of oh I don’t know a hundred people , had met at least 2 famous race car drivers and my very own hero !
Next I was told that the second round was ready to go and we had to get back on the grid. And this time it was being shown on live television. With me right up the front on my own , holding the V8 supercar ute flag . Great ! As I said , I’m not shy but the flags were hard to hold in the wind and who wants to look like a dickhead on national TV ?

That was pretty much it for Day one. Day 2 started off nicely with the wind not so bad I managed to hold onto my flag in the first round. Unfortunately things didn’t go so well for Kim. I wont tell you what happened , you can watch for your self ….

Wrong. We’re gonna fix this shit ! They had an hour to do it and they made it just in time. Craziest shit I’ve seen in a long time – next time my mechanic tells me to wait 2 or 3 days I’m going to tell him I know better !!!
He didn’t win in the end but he did win down at Perth and the Series is not over yet. It was a great experience meeting all of these awesome people and getting to see the other side of car racing.
By the way I can’t end this post without telling you that while Kim had no more drama’s in his next round , I had to have the bloody flag taken off me while I was ON THE GRID because it was literally about to take me on a trip to the sky !
So I’m gonna end this with 2 more happy snaps – the man who saved me and me pretending I won an award !
Ok because I am so exhausted I’m seeing triple I’ve been lazy and am explaining my most fantastic day for ages with my latest facebook post ( private , not kels gone bush ) and I have even left in all my spelling mistakes because lets face it I’m tooo tired to spell hehe
I will tell you just in case you are wondering Peter Obrian is a Territory personality that goes bush , gets in to mischief and writes about it .. And is funny as FARK !!! I will do a more in depth post about my crazy weekend but as I have to do it all again tomorrow I ll leave you with this preview .. again please excuse the spelling mistakes !
Truly fantastic day I was at the V8s representing Kim Jane’s ute on the grid hanging out in the pits with taking photos with race fans THEN I got to meet one of my idol’s , the man who inspired me to write kelsgonebush.com Phil Obrian who then interviewed me for the big screen and after I told him about my blog and stuff reckons we should collaborate !!! Best F*cking day in a long time ! (sorry mum and mimi but sometimes that word is called for lol )

Hello People !!! Today was absolutely fantabulous !! I got up after an awesome sleep , drove my new (old) Suzuki swift 93 edition ( named Princess ) that my fantabulous boyfriend purchased for me on Friday ( he is now in charge of all motor vehicle purchases ever since the disaster we call the Honda civic that I bought last year and drove for 3 weeks before it broke…not my fault by the way – more about that in the future …)
So anyway I’m driving to work in my new race car and made it there 10 min early due to driving a car that actually does the bloody speed limit ( the Troopy took 5 mins to get to 100kms an hour ! ). I packed all the free shit into Black Betty and went to do my radio cross as usual. Now for the best part : I drive back to the station to drop the van off and pick up the Princess. Before I left I stopped in to see the brekky presenters Tom and Sarah when shit went down ..:
Me : Hey guys all went well , I guess Ill catch ya tomorrow
Sarah: Actually we wanted to tell you something
Me: (thinking fuck here it goes again , I’m fired ): Oh right sweet whats up?
Sarah: We were just talking about how you’re getting really good at this ..
Tom : Yeah your flow is heaps better and its sounds more natural ..
Me : *aw shucks guys * grinning like the Cheshire cat !
I practice every script 5 times before I say it but lately I have it memorized so well I have started to ad lib etc and obviously its paying off. When I first begun I didn’t think I would last due to my excessive swearing in real life ( I tone it down a bit for my blog ‘cos hey I want people to read it ! ) I really wanted this job so I practiced hard and look ! Practice is starting to make (nearly) perfect !
Looking like a scene from the movie Mad Max , the Finke desert was full of weird contraptions last weekend as revheads from all over the country competed in the annual Finke Desert off-road race , one of the biggest off-road races in the world. I applied to be a grid girl for the race at the start of the year but was knocked back – I don’t mind I’ll apply again next year and if they knock me back again Ill enter the troopy in the race instead !
Talking of Grid girls I am going to be on the grid for the Darwin V8 Supercars this weekend – Its going to be a massive 2 days I cant wait !!
And yes , I will be telling you all about it next week
Yesterday was awesome. First of all we went to one of my favorite places – the Buely Rockhole , Litchfeild National Park. Secondly I went with some cool people – my boyfriend Dave and my flatmate Jodie. And the best bit – we took shitloads of vodka and rum – always makes every occasion more enjoyable !!
So I can’t tell you much about the day except at one point we decided to impersonate Swedish backpackers and posed topless with a funny road sign (I’m pretty sure I also tried to use it as a stripper pole) – a set of pics I’m definitely NOT showing you guys !

To be honest the reason I was using a coffee cup instead of a normal one was because I needed something with a lid to stop me spilling my vodka everywhere which is standard practice for drunk-Kel

The view from our VIP section – we climbed the fence to get our own private rockpool. If anyone came too close we just scared them away with our craziness – plus Dave resembles that big bloke from Harry Potter so just seeing him alone is enough for people to keep their distance.

As I mentioned in my last post the Territory is home to a species of birds who like to spread fire by picking up burning twigs and dropping them in another area.
